Elon Musk is living my idealized vision of Capitalism

I don't know if this thread gets MS or SB so let's roll the dice.

First of all, this will be a thread praising Elon Musk. So before I get called an Elon shill I will mention that not so long ago I used to be an Elon Musk 'hater'. I frequent many internet forums (including this one) where Elon gets treated like if he was a God for what he's done with Tesla and SpaceX and back in the day I would be quick to remind everyone that Musk was born into wealth and many times even received government assistance so his companies would not go bankrupt. I personally thought that this was unfair. If you are like me then the only interaction you have with the government is when they put a gun behind your head and ask you to pay them 50% of your income with no added benefit to you. Therefore Elon Musk is not a god - he is a lucky bastard. He is a lucky bastard with a lot of power and influence. Those are facts and that is why I will never agree with treating Elon like if he was some sort of genius - he's not. But I must say that out of all the billionaires we have nowadays... he's alright.

With that out of the way, I'll discuss the current events: his acquisition of Twitter. He did this after mentioning that there is zero economic incentive for him in this deal, he just wants to change the way twitter polices its own platform. I think that every billionaire wants you to believe that they do everything out of the goodness of their heart and not to make money, but here I am inclined to believe him. Look at Twitter. Twitter is a complete fucking disaster. For starters, Twitter is the only social media platform that I don't use. I don't even have an user there. And why? Because what even is the point of Twitter? If you go on Twitter and share a left-wing argument then the right-wing will harass you. But if you go and instead share a right-wing argument then the left wing will harass you. Twitter is literally a harassment website. This is why Facebook or Instagram were never built around sharing political opinions - you are supposed to post pictures with your dogs. Tbh Twitter is the most retarded idea for a social platform ever conceived of but I must admit: there are enough masochists in the world to use it. However, I'm not particularly bullish on masochism as a busisness practice which is why I would never in a billion years invest on Twitter. And yet he, probably doing the same mental math as me here, invested.

So why did he invest? Well, he disliked the ways twitter management was handling things. Elon believes that they are deliberately censoring certain points of view and he doesn't like that. Now, if he is right or wrong I honestly don't give a fuck because that is not my point. My point is that this is what I always thought capitalism should be.

You see, back in my college days I saw a lot of protests. There were kids protesting against the politicians. There were kids protesting against the wealthy. There were kids protesting against the wealthy politicians. I saw it all. And of course there are plenty of billionaires I despise and even more politicians I hate. But I never participated in those protests. Know why? Because I thought that protesting goes against capitalism. Seriously, gathering en masse and blocking everyone else is quite literally slowing the economy. If you block a road then now the truck supplying Coke to the nearby store won't be able to reach it. So I always thought: 'If these people hate these things so much, why don't they just become billionaires and then use their money to solve those issues?'. For example, if you hate discrimination against immigrants then become a billionaire and then hire literally every single undocumented immigrant into your company. If you hate oil companies polluting the environment then you should go become a billionaire, invent a new source of energy, and completely wipe out oil. If you hate deforestation then you go and become a billionaire and invent synthetic wood or some shit. The point is that in capitalism you can change anything with money. Therefore if there is something you don't like about the system or about society then the first step for you should be to get massively wealthy. And then, after you are wealthy, you start deploying your capital until you solve the problem. And that is what Elon Musk did. He saw a problem from his perspective: Twitter, which he sees as the digital townsquare, was enacting censorship against certain individuals. What is the solution? You whip out 50 billion dollars and just buy them. Now you run Twitter. Simple as.

I honestly wish more people adopted this line of thinking. What is even the point of going on Twitter and complaining about shit? Just go become rich and then do what Elon did: buy them. Hate oil? Buy all the oil companies and then shut them down. Hate racists? Fucking LBO the entire KKK and then replace management with black women. Hate Trump? Buy all of his fucking hotels and then fill them with homeless people. I don't care. Just stop being a pussy and complaining so much and start MAKING SOME MONEY so that you can then solve those problems yourself.

I used to not be a fan of Musk as well but I think he has added a lot of value to the world, more so than other execs I can think of. The temper tantrums people are throwing over this are highly partisan and frankly absurd. He is at the forefront of space exploration and EVs, pretty sure he can manage to run Twitter, which in my opinion hasn't been managed well. It's disappointing to see how many people are freaking out over the idea that he wants to create and maintain more free speech on the platform. The left is worried that they won't be able to just silence anyone they don't agree with.

What’s crazy to me is all the idiots on Twitter complaining about how “$44B could’ve been used for world hunger!” or homelessness, climate change, etc.

Like first off, this was financed by debt, Elon doesn’t have $44B liquid but of course none of the morons on Twitter can wrap their heads around that. And second, world hunger largely isn’t a money issue at this point, homelessness is more of a drugs/mental health issue, and isn’t climate change the very thing Tesla claims to be working against (though debatable how effective EVs even are but that’s another discussion)

I’m glad Elon is working to remove the hypocrites running Twitter and I think it’s a good thing. Censorship is a net negative for society. Sadly, the platform to me is already dead. Somewhere around 2016ish it devolved into an outright political debate forum where everyone thinks their opinion matters. And quite frankly, it doesn’t.
