Feeling Lonely in LA

You know the saying... New York is a happy hell and Los Angeles is a sad heaven.

Recent grad who moved out to LA a couple of months ago, but finding it difficult to meet other like minded people who also work in finance. Anyone have an idea of where to meet others in the industry in LA or would like to connect in person?

OP I feel you. I’m born and raised in LA and no one I know works in finance so I get the frustration. Work friends maybe?

You don’t want to make friends in the industry… make regular friends. I have friends in A&D, tech, education, entertainment - it makes friend groups much more interesting when everyone isn’t talking about work.

I live in LA and it’s not a lonely city. You just have to be intentional about getting out of the house. Depends on which part of town you’re in, but doing a sports league is the easiest way to make friends. You’ll probably have to do several different leagues til you find a good group. Kickball, softball and beach volleyball are prob the best for meeting people. Also stuff like run club (Venice run club is super popular), yoga classes, volleyball classes, tennis classes, golf groups etc are all great for making friends. If you’re not sporty, there are other meet ups for you but I haven’t ventured down that path (D&D, board games, movie groups, music groups, whatever).

You have to put yourself out there and keep an open mind. WSO is not the best place to make friends.
