Fighting the Monkey Mind

Hi,

has anyone been bothered by his monkey mind and succesfully worked against it? I'm especially thinking of meditation and the like, but would be thankful for any advice.

During the later stages of my studies it became more and more an issue for me. As of now, I would guess that 70% of the time and energy invested in learning goes into the attempt to get "in the zone". In that context, I recently got my hormone levels checked, but they turned out to be good. It really bothers me. Sure, it's likely that my cognitive capacities are just (below) average, which would be ok, but my current level is more that of a prospective retard.
