Finance Major in a bit of a hole right now. Advice please.

Hi, Did not know here else to post this

I'm in my 7th semester in my college. Due to poor choices by me and the options the college offers Im not on track to finish in four years. I have not taken a finance course yet I was planning on taking the pre rec finance course to all the other pre recs in the winter. Unfortunately my college does not offer it during the winter. And the chairperson will not let me take the pre rec finance course along with my other finance courses at the same time. Now you would think I would only have to stay an extra semester but since my college hardly offers some of these classes in might by another whole year. Thats right. 5 years to complete a finance degree all because of me being an idiot and also because of one class. What should I do guys? Should I change my major? Any advice at all would be appreciated.

Im turning 22 next week, and live with my parents. I don't want to be 23 1/2 and just have a BA degree and no career. Plus ill have to pay for an additional year. I want to move out of my home. I want stability. Additionally Im jealous of my friends, they have their lives together. They are going to be PAs, there going to be in school for 5 years as well but make 100k off the bat. So its the jealous of not being stable like they are.

1st yr analysts in finance range in ages.... seen anywhere from the usual out of college 21/22 yr old to 26/27. im sure others have seen the same.

if I were you, i personally would take my time and make sure my education is nailed down to what I want it to be. if $$$ isnt an issue of course.

also, a side note (and my personal opinion) - jealousy is pretty idiotic. /grass is always greener cliche

I'm going to give you advice I wish I got at that age: Live YOUR life, not your friends' lives. Who cares if it takes an extra year to finish school? Will your friends look down on you for it? If so, those people aren't your "friends." Take the extra year, enjoy it, network, develop some new hobbies/interests, etc. that you will enjoy for years. Work will be there in 2019.

Bottom line: You do you.

They won't. But I expect better. I would have wanted a stable life. Live on my own and build something. And staying in school longer just increases my anxiety on life and its difficult to live with

Sounds like you just need to take a course at another institution and have your school sign off on it.

I don't see any issue with this. You might need a dean's signature (probably the dean of your degree).

"ElCaptain95" I was looking into that but no one seems to offer this course in the winter semester

What course is it -

You might want to talk to the registrar/dean to ask if online courses would be accepted.

The only person you should be competing with is yourself. It is common to graduate within 5 years -- shit happens. Even if somebody wasn't dealing with a personal health/family issue, the prereqs alone for college take FOREVER to complete.

I'm in my fifth year and I'm about to graduate. I took a gap year off and then transferred to a school out of state. I am behind my peers I guess, but I'll be starting FT very soon. I landed great internships and I'm happy with how far I've come along. Don't sweat it.
