Go get a blood test done first to see what you're deficient in and to what degree. Usual suspects would be Vit D3, iron, vitamin B's, etc. Afterwards you can decide what you want to supplement and to what extent, although changing your diet to get in the necessary nutrients would obviously be the best course of action.

In terms of actual products, I've had good luck with Animal Pak (taking one pack aka half a serving per day) and in addition supplementing with things like Vitamin D3, zinc, and some other stuff that I was deficient in.

For fish oils, you can get a ton from Myprotein for dirt cheap but it's not the best quality. I currently use a brand I got off Amazon, but have since thrown out the original box so no longer know the name. I've also done Animal Omega, but the number of pills was a hassle and I shat molten hot asphalt for the first week I was taking it from the ~6g of various oils. I would advise going for fish oil sourced from the North Sea if you can spare the extra couple of bucks.

Bit pricier than average multivitamins, but it definitely (seems) to help.

Yeah, and I was thinking of one even pricier.

As far as the oils, I heard krill oil is pretty good. Whole Foods doesn't carry it because it is unsustainable. I personally just take a generic multi these days and eat salmon/fish enough so as not to need a supplement. But, it is good to get the Omega 3's.

Best multivitamin I've found is Animal Pak. Just get past the label/marketing (suited for meatheads). I've been taking 1 pack/day for ~8 months and I haven't gotten a cold/sick thus far. I usually get sick when the seasons change and when my sleep schedule really gets thrown off, but so far so good. Not sure if it's blind luck but I'm sticking with them. Btw, your pee will look radioactive after consuming.

I think the vitamin C supplement is worth it because they are usually yummy, and because there aren't any downsides to taking too much vitamin C (it just goes straight through your system). There are definitely potential health benefits if you don't typically get enough from your food.

Also - vitamin gummies. No, seriously. You're not too old, and they're delicious! it's most likely healthier than real candy! These are the ones I eat: http://content.costco.com/Images/Content/Product/303584.jpg

I take airborne if I feel like im about to catch something. I actually think it works. Other than that, nothing.

My friend use to swear by Airborne until I showed him that the Company settled a class action lawsuit for false advertisement. Honestly, I think all cold vitamins and similar products to Airborne are glorified placebos.

I'm not paying too much attention to this. Nutritional science has a really shaky history.

The US diet guidelines are now being looked at carefully --- the medical community fucked up 4 decades of recommendations.

Remember the "food pyramid" when growing up? The foundation of your diet should be "grains" with little to no fat at the top of the pyramid lol. Cue an epidemic of obesity, diabetes, and vascular disease.

When it comes to vitamins...I'm going with common sense. If my body doesn't need it, I'll just have expensive urine. No harm, no foul.

Please don't quote Patrick Bateman.

A multivitamin isn't really needed with a diet that contains a proper amount of micronutrients but obviously that's going to be difficult, especially given a finance-lifestyle. A lot of cheap multivitamins use forms with poor bioavailability and are mostly a waste.

I take Orange Triad. Quality ingredients and has a full joint, immune system, and digestion support complex. Not even that expensive if you stock up when it's on sale.

Yea, though if you take the recommended dose just gotta remember to drink a gallon of water/day.

Mirin....Orange Triad is a great multi. Just make sure you lift heavy.

As long as you have a semblance of a healthy balanced diet, you don't need supplements.

That probably translates to no beer, soda, or junk food. Who here does this?

I've never taken a Multi-V consistently but have occasionally bought into the idea. I fortunately grew up eating extremely clean. I have a mother who used to smoke a 1.5 packs a day (down to 0.5 pack, thank god) but was ironically extremely knowledgeable about clean eating, certified organics, always grew (and still does) her own herbs, vegetables, spices, etc.

Two of my siblings also became vegetarian and/or vegan in high school. I don't know which is which to be honest because I believe that vegetarian is an ancient term used to describe a dumbass who couldn't fish or hunt. Anyhow, they did turn to the dark side right around the time I was a freshman and began to lift a ton for football and lacrosse so nutrition became paramount to me and after two years of protein shakes I started hearing about the negative aspects of too much red meat in your diet---> So 2 or 3 times a week I would avoid eating meet and be able to eat some kind of "green heavy" meal and I would simply avoid too much of the soy protein substitutes which are bad for men and felt that I benefitted big time from the constant green/clean eating.

Reason for this background info is that despite my history of good health and good nutritional habits, I would occasionally go on a 3 month or 6 month spurt where I would pick up a centrum or GNC Mega-Men Multi-V if I felt malnourished or for some reason in a position to benefit from it.

I was always pretty in tune with how I felt and although I DO think it gave me some kind of "mental edge" knowing I had extra vitamins circulating in my system, I never felt any different and never performed any different in all aspects. To be honest, all I did was waste $30 a pop and ended up pissing green for the better part of the day.

So I can't say that they are a waste, but if you are in a position to eat healthy, go green, go organic/natural. Although if I was traveling alot or working a ton I would definitely take one as a safety-blanket and me personally, it would be a mental necessity.
