Well by now hopefully we have all heard the story on O'Reilly.
After this scandal Fox has fired one of their most recognizable faces and one of the most popular cable TV shows in the world.

“tremendously disheartening that we part ways due to completely unfounded claims. But that is the unfortunate reality many of us in the public eye must live with today,” he said. “I will always look back on my time at Fox with great pride in the unprecedented success we achieved and with my deepest gratitude to all my dedicated viewers. I wish only the best for Fox News Channel.”
Do you think this force out was right? Do you think media faces and personalities are too scrutinized for this? What do we think about Fox trying to get rid of the "boys club" reputation?

i heard a snippet about how because of their deal with Sky they have to be extra careful with these things right now and pass some sort of "sniff test" soon, i wonder how much this played a part in his firing
What is interesting in all of this is Fox knew about these incidents prior to singing him his most recent contract. They may have been attempting to sweep it under the rug initially, but when it became public I do not think they were left with much of a choice.
Some of the allegations sound like complete bull crap (i.e. some chick alleging that O'Reilly called her something like "black chocolate" a decade ago), but the revelations of allegation after allegation were mounting. I've actually been in the unenviable situation of being falsely accused of rape (and exonerated when the facts came to light, thanks to a whistleblower); since then I've always been highly skeptical of sexual harassment and rape allegations. With that said, when you're talking a dozen or so independent accusations then there is probably some fire around that smoke.
Fox News knew it had plenty of talent behind O'Reilly it can pay 1/4 as much, so Fox knew it could afford to let him go.
Good post. Sorry you were accused of that. The line is very thin for those situations... I could write about all the situations I have experienced with other people (never been accused) but it is definitely hard to know who tells the truth and who doesn't. I agree with multiple accusations something is not right... but each case is different and it is just very hard to validate what happened.
I think the station also wanted to save some $$ since Carlson came on. Plus, new management since Roger Ailes left wants to shake things up and get rid of the negative image too gain more viewers.

O'Reilly kicked out of Fox, Tucker Carlson takes his slot. What is your outlook on Fox vis-a-vis other networks? Their best host is leaving, and Tucker isn't "conservative" enough for the Fox crowd. Also, where do you think is O'Reilly headed next?
I am sure with enough cash Tucker may go harder right. Also, the younger Murdocks wanted to go a bit more center to reach a larger audience - heard it on cnbc yesterday. It will be interesting to see if the politics or the host were the draw for O'Reilly. Politics aside, I thought he was a pain in the ass to watch. Tucker can hold his own on the politics and does not come off as such a large asshole - at least from what I have seen. I think it will be an improvement. The hardcore fox fans will continue to watch so long as they keep the legs on the screen and are slightly right of CNN.
I think Tucker is great. Love his interviews.
Fox News is the Alabama football of cable news--it has endless talent. O'Reilly will be harder to replace than a typical host, but there is no irreplaceable host at Fox News.

O'Reilly was very nice to me when I worked there, came to talk to me every night, although I wasn't his producer. The net was brand new and he wasn't yet a big star.
I wasn't surprised that he got canned after the advertiser boycott.
I hadn't been a huge fan of Carlson as a host, but I watched his whole show the other night, and he absolutely nailed it. So I think he'll do OK in the slot and good for him. If the ratings plunge, they'll try somebody else. Next in line would probably be Martha MacCallum (who was a close colleague of mine at another shop), although she's not really a conservative. But she's at the top of her game now and, of course, much better looking than O'Reilly or Carlson.
I think poor old Bill will buy a house in Fla. like Ailes and keep on plugging ghostwritten books, newsletters and doing speaking gigs until he croaks.
I don't see Martha MacCallum as having the "it" factor to carry the Fox News (or any) brand on her shoulders the way O'Reilly or Megan Kelley could.
O'Reilly has a sweet island villa in the Caribbean, along with DiCaprio and Bill Gates. He'll retire golden.
Exit ops from Fox are looking pretty dismal. I also heard upper management can really screw you over for promotions.
O'Reilly will probably write an Autobiography entitled "Killing O'Reilly" and possibly wind up in talk radio.
and tbh O'Reilly was probably too conservative for Rupert Murdoch and his children... I wouldn't be suprised if Fox turns in to CNN in the next couple of years and we see a rise in alternative media and talk radio.
