FT Roomate NYC

Looking for a roommate or two to join me in NYC. Looking to sign a lease at the beginning of June, ideally in the East Village or Murray Hill, though I am flexible.

I enjoy sports, going out, and am a personable and friendly guy. Looking for people with similar vibes!

Based on the most helpful WSO content, here are some tips and insights for finding roommates and housing in NYC:

  1. Timing for Lease: Starting your search in early April or May is ideal if you're looking to sign a lease by June. This gives you enough time to find compatible roommates and secure a good deal.

  2. Neighborhoods:

    • Murray Hill: A popular choice for young professionals, especially those working in Midtown. It's known for its vibrant nightlife and proximity to offices. Expect rents for shared apartments to range between $1.5k-$2.25k per person.
    • East Village: Offers a more laid-back vibe with great bars, restaurants, and a younger crowd. It's a bit less corporate than Murray Hill but still a fantastic option.
  3. Finding Roommates:

    • Reach out to fellow incoming analysts or professionals at your firm via LinkedIn or school networks.
    • Consider using platforms like WSO roommate threads or other forums to connect with like-minded individuals.
  4. Budgeting: Be clear about your budget and ensure all roommates are aligned. For reference, shared apartments in these neighborhoods typically fall within the $1.5k-$2.25k range per person.

  5. Tips for Apartment Hunting:

    • Use platforms like StreetEasy and filter for "no fee" listings to save on broker fees.
    • Avoid co-ops as they often have stricter rules and longer approval processes.
    • If you're considering luxury rentals, check directly with the building's leasing office to avoid broker fees.
  6. Flexibility: While East Village and Murray Hill are great options, being open to nearby neighborhoods like Gramercy or Long Island City can increase your chances of finding a good deal.

Good luck with your search! If you need more specific advice, feel free to ask.
