Future of NYC?

What will happen to New York? What will the city look like in five, ten years? Everyone says oh New York is New York, it will always be there, it’s great, it’s the center of the universe we rebuilt after the sketchy 70s and 80s and after 9/11 blah blah blah. But the recent trend has been migration out of the city, especially to places like Florida. Why would sane people pay an exorbitant amount in rent for a prolonged period of time if the quality of life is substantially diminished? Especially the old people - Manhattan skews very old to begin with. Personally, I don’t think Facebook will really have over half of their workforce remote or anything like that, people will always want to be where the action is. But if you really can do the same job remotely by the beach in Florida, why would you want to freeze and pay a ridiculous amount in rent in a virus filled urban jungle?
