georgia tech Industrial engineering major looking to go into finance

Hey I was just wondering how georgia tech industrial engineering is viewed by atlanta banks and private equity firms. I'm hoping to make a career in finance.

Hey tinister,

My sister just graduated IE from Tech. Its one of the, if not the most, respected school as far as employability in Atlanta. With this in mind, you just need to demonstrate an interest in finance. Join the finance and investment clubs at Tech and attend employer sessions, and you should have no problem getting opportunities in the area.

As an example, I go to UPenn, and while I was cold-emailing banks in Atlanta for a summer position, a valuation firm (does work similar to IB) straight up told me they tend to hire GT students because that is the caliber and quality of student they are comfortable with (almost the entire firm had received some sort of degree from Tech).

Thanks helpinghand the info you just gave me is very reassuring. Do you know if ib employers look at gpa differently for certain majors?as an engineering major would I need a GPA >3.7 to be considered for an interview(which in engineering is a very difficult task). I currently have a 3.3 which I know will hurt me but if I were able to get it to around a 3.5 would I be in good shape for the initial screenings?(granted that I also have activities to back me up) Also if you don't mind do you think you could post or pm me the name of the valuation firm that you cold called for networking purposes(if you don't want to do this i completely understand) thanks again for all the help and good luck with your job search/networking
