Getting along with male traders....

So I have posted few stuff months ago...and now I am working at MM, FX team.....
Anyway, everyone is extremely nice, no badass seniors. I believe the fact that I am the only female on the trading floor helps me to be treated well. Even my MD brings me coffee every morning ! (I volunteered to be a coffee girl, bc I am the only junior here most of them have +2years of trading experience, but everyone said it is not my job to bring coffee to seniors)

My problem is I don't really get along well with other traders. Or I just think that way. Not that they are talking about women or other topics that might be uncomfortable for me to join the conversation. They talk about ordinary stuff, football, sports, burger joints etc.

Actually my desk it tidbit far from younger guys, but that shouldn't be an hindrance for them to invite me to Five Guys for lunch when everyone else is invited...

I can't really flirt with traders like sales girls and I don't think it is gonna be a good approach. Yet I don't want to act like a guy just to be part of it. I am worried seniors think I am too "shy" but I just can't really define the border between doing too much and not doing anything...

Suggestions?

Read up on ESPN news, college football and NFL. You will be able to impress your seniors. Learn what bars have best beer in town. And as you said, don't flirt with traders as sales girls do.

Don't you think if someone got a job as an associate right after grad school (w/o full time experience) she/he have already wooed them with "technical" stuff..? Anyway, we don't do EM

Now I see why the guys don't invite you.

OP, aren't you the poster who was asking about whether to go to dinner with that MD? And the one that said she wanted to do banking to get back at her ex?

It seems like you're fairly book-smart but socially a bit dense. In this thread, you have people busting your chops, but you are oblivious as to what's going on around you. That's the kiss of death on a trading floor.

Honest question... Are you ESL?

How long have you worked on that desk?

Just invite yourself, jeez its not that hard. Or better yet ask them all if they want to go to X for lunch. Don't be shy. Get some sort of ball, horn, something that draws attention and after you close a big winner stand up and blow the horn/ spike the ball/ or something similar. Let them know you have a pair (of tits that is).

Are you an adult, with a job, asking people on the internet how to interact with coworkers?

Don't talk sports. It always sounds just a little awkward coming from a woman.

And go and just invite yourself along to drinks/lunch/whatever. Who are these guys? The princes of Siam? No, they aren't. They are just dudes. Just go. If they talk about Five Guys, say, "I love five guys! The burgers are great!" and then you will all talk about food etc and then order it together. Or talk about your favorite BBQ place. If you don't have one, come up with one(but make sure it is a good BBQ place).

Don't flirt with them. Please, you've already got coffee guy trying to get down your pants.

They are just probably feeling a little awkward because they are used to talking about s3x and farting wars and all that and they can't do that around you.

And don't talk guys with them. Their guy advice will be one of these: "Okay"..."Dump him"..."whatever".

After a while sitting with them you'll get used to making jokes, talking about the latest news, whatever and it won't be a big deal.
