Getting fatter and more tired by the day... Why don't you get back in the gym?

From what I've read so far, seems like a mixed crowd of regular gym-goers and then everyone else who can't seem to find the time/motivation. I find that most of my friends fall into the latter group. Despite all being athletes through high school and college, our bodies seem to go to shit one bacon cheeseburger and beer at a time.... the desk jockeying doesn't help the matter.

  • Do you want to get back in shape?
  • What is it that is stopping you from doing so?
  • What would help make it easier for you?

Presumably you've got drive and motivation in most other pursuits so why should this be any different? Just wondering what is most challenging for you.

I work out 5 times a week, eat OK (could be better, but I'm no glutton), get plenty of sleep, and use a standing desk. Even so my metabolism is slowing to a crawl. It's a complete war trying to keep my weight in check. The poor girl who marries me is going to marry a relatively handsome fellow who will balloon up to a neckless freak within 5 years. :(

it's all calories bro

I've been working out 3-4 times a week, mostly doing these intense boot camp classes. Absolutely kicks my ass. It is amazing though how one alcohol fueled weekend seems to ruin most of the progress.

This. The day I give up beer is the day I'll stop breaking even at staying relatively normal and turn into Chris Pratt. The Guardians version and not Parks and Rec one. Although the latter is pretty awesome.

Couldn't agree more. Typically workout 4-5 times a week and eat clean. However, the weekend rolls around and at least one alcohol fueled night works its way in: 10+ drinks, Pizza, etc.. and the only way to appease that hangover is with a boozy brunch. But hey, it's the choices that we make! I really only workout to maintain and allow myself to binge regularly. I'm not too concerned about becoming Mr. Olympia.

Exactly! and you get to eat for two and not worry about gaining weight either!

The biggest thing that helped me was getting a personal trainer. That way it's no longer just a matter of motivating myself and getting up when I feel like it, but I now have an external obligation to a 3rd party. It's now an appointment that you can only cancel for a bona fide emergency or illness.
