Ghosted After Receiving the Call

Hey guys,

I received a phone call last Friday that a team I have been interviewing with is making me an offer and that I will receive a follow-up email later that day and the actual offer letter early next week.

Well, as it turns out, I did not receive a follow-up email and I still have not received the offer letter. This would be my first job out of college and as you can imagine, I am pretty anxious right now. I sent an email to the HR rep who scheduled my first interview, but have not heard from her and I also plan to call back the rep tomorrow, who actually told me I will be getting the offer letter.

Has this happened to anyone? Is this just how bad HR is, making me sweat bullets, or is something wrong here?

It might just be how bad HR is. They might even be on vacation without setting out-of-office notification, so perhaps nobody is reading your emails or working on your case.

I would definitely call back the HR rep a few times, and email that person. If none of that works, I would consider just sending a friendly check in email to someone you know well there like an Analyst.

Be excellent to each other, and party on, dudes.

That is my guess as well.

OP - do you have contact info for the hiring manager or your future team leader, perhaps from when you sent thank you emails after the interview or something? Might be worth reaching out to that person too.

it is hard to say. HR is usually a mess in terms of organization and low in terms of people that know what is going on. They are not the decision makers. I would suggest you speak with those closest to the decision maker, they will be the best option for getting a legitimate response that is backed up by facts. As always, the ability to show a strong hand (other offers) helps light the fire under people (I know that you may have only been working on this offer, just saying in terms of goals to shoot for). Best of luck, sorry for the crappy situation.
