Gift Ideas for Someone with a lot of Money

Hey, I need some gift ideas for someone that has a lot of money already. He did me a huge favor and I want to thank him. I'm not sure what to get him though.

Also, I don't know him too well so I can't think of anything that would be meaningful. What would you do in this type of situation?

Does he smoke cigars? You can get him a small bundle (3 or 5) of good cigars. Or you can also get him a nice humidor. They usually vary in price from $100-500 for a desk-top humidor. Someone gifted me an antique cigar cutter, it is by-far one of my favorite belongings even though I don't smoke cigars quite as much as I used to.

Also depends how much you want to spend. How about some more context?

First of all, it depends on the contact and how he went about getting you the job. If he is family/family friend, and he introduced you to someone at a bank that subsequently hired you, it is appropriate to get him a gift. If he is someone that actually works at the bank, it is not appropriate to get them anything, unless they were already a close family/friend that did some legwork for you. Otherwise, it is akin to getting a professor a gift for helping you with a project/getting a good grade.

So assuming your person falls into the first category: If you don't know if hes a scotch drinker, then get him a bottle of JW Blue Label. While most drinkers would not necessarily consider this the best bang for the buck or a top scotch, it is widely regarded for whatever reason as "top shelf". If he does drink, he will appreciate the extent of the gesture, and if he does not drink, he will still appreciate that it is a good gift, and he can then regift it to someone else if necessary. The problem you will run into if you go with another 18yo single malt is that you need to know preferences (smoky, casket, strengths, etc), and if he is not a drinker, he may not know the value of an 18y Macallan cask strength.
