"Girls only want guys that have great skills": What are you doing to increase your value?

Hey monkeys!

I just re-visited "How to Fail at Almost Everything and Still Win Big" by Scott Adams (of Dilbert fame). I came across this passage:

When I speak to young people on the topic to success , as I often do, I tell them there's a formula for it... The formula, roughly speaking, is that every skill you acquire doubles your odds of success.
The future is thoroughly unpredictable when it comes to your profession and personal life ten years out. The best way to increase your odds of success...is to become systematically good, but not amazing, at the types of skills that work well together and are highly useful for any job...luck has a good chance of finding you if you are merely good in most of these areas.

Adams goes on to say that you just need to be merely good at more than one skill. He mentions that adults should have a working knowledge in the following skills:

  • Public Speaking

  • Psychology

  • Business Writing

  • Accounting

  • Design (the basics)

  • Conversation

  • Overcoming shyness

  • Second language

  • Golf

  • Proper grammar

  • Persuasion

  • Tech (hobby level)

  • Proper voice technique

Do you agree with Adams that these skills are great to have? Are you all doing anything currently to improve your skill-set?
