GS "muppet" email search
from independent.co.uk "Goldman Sachs to trawl its system for 'muppet' jibes"
Goldman Sachs is combing through staff emails to see if anyone ever referred to the bank's clients as "muppets", as alleged by the renegade employee Greg Smith last week. The hunt was ordered by the chief executive, Lloyd Blankfein, following the dramatic resignation of Mr Smith last week.
On the conference call with partners this week, Mr Blankfein, pictured, said the company was taking Mr Smith's claims seriously and was conducting a review of his assertions, including the email scan.
It was not clear when the email search would be completed or what actions, if any, Goldman would take if the search does turn up derogatory comments.
if "muppets" were the worst thing clients were called then seems pretty tame to me. Just a PR move? or is GS really trying to clean things up? If so how would they punish them? Who else is going down in the weeks to come?
I will eat my shorts if "muppet" is the worst name for a client they find.
Get the gallows ready, Goldman's gonna have a public execution sometime within the next couple weeks...
How are they gonna punish people for this?
Seems like a PR move to me. They should really just let this story die though.
They're gonna find a couple non-vital employees who were part of the muppet conversation, scapegoat all the "bad culture" juju onto them by releasing the emails in a sign of "goodwill," then leave those saps out to fend off the media wolves all alone and unemployed.
What about incoming emails? I think some prankster could have some fun with a Sesame Street mailer.
Some VPs are about to be taking one for the team...
Haha that'd be the worst. Fired just because some douche made a story for the New York Times. Though to be fair, you shouldn't be calling your client a 'muppet.' If you get fired for that, in a big way it's your own fault
PR end of discussion lol
There is a significant difference between calling someone a "muppet" in the US and doing the same in the UK. Either way, I'm labelling this as PR damage control.
... But I love the Muppets. They're hilarious!
Wow, this is kind of ridiculous. Definitely a PR move, but it's still unfortunate that people will probably get fired over something they might've said years ago. Then again, if you're dumb enough to call clients muppets over company email that you know gets saved for XX years, then it's probably your fault.
Making amends for the broker-dealer model's inherent conflict of interest one muppet at a time
Who is your favorite muppet? I liked Lew Zealand..he was funny
Though I also enjoyed the intimidating, yet gentle Sweetums
Animal is the best.
I might be wrong but perhaps it's because the term "muppet" implies that clients are puppets in a way, which for me has more negative connotations than worse sounding words.
.
This is just life imitating media. Muppets Take Manhattan was such a classic that, now, in real life, muppets are taking Manhattan...jobs.
Oh my apologies. I have a distinct lack of image posting skills as I haven't received such snarkiness in a while. If I remembered how to insert a gif, it would be as follows:
