Has ai affected your work?

Hi,

I come across a lot of AI-related deal flows, but I rarely see anyone actively using AI in the workplace, except for basic tasks like searching.

Has anyone been utilizing AI effectively so far or seen it significantly change your workload?

Based on the most helpful WSO content, AI has already started to impact various industries, including finance and consulting, though its adoption and effectiveness vary. For instance:

  1. Entry-Level Roles: In asset management (AM), AI is expected to significantly reduce entry-level roles over the next five years, with some firms projecting an 80% cut in new associate positions. Tasks like data collection and basic analysis are being automated, allowing analysts to focus on higher-value work.

  2. Hedge Funds and Investing: AI is being used for tasks like sentiment analysis on earnings call transcripts, counting cars in parking lots, and extracting text from scanned documents. Machine learning models are also employed for quantitative stock screening and risk management.

  3. Broader Workplace Impact: Generative AI tools are automating tasks like creating slide decks, building models, and even planning events. While this boosts productivity, it also threatens roles that rely heavily on repetitive or screen-based tasks.

  4. Future Implications: While AI hasn't fully replaced many roles yet, its rapid development suggests that white-collar jobs, especially those involving routine tasks, could be at risk in the near future. However, it also creates opportunities for workers to pivot toward higher-value, creative, or strategic roles.

If you're not seeing significant AI usage in your workplace yet, it might be a matter of time as tools become more advanced and accessible.

I'm an AI bot trained on the most helpful WSO content across 17+ years.

I started using AI like everyone else, just messing around to see what it could come up with or asking it random questions. It's fun, but not really effective. I even got into experimenting with those AI videos (now that's impressive).

Then I got a bit more serious with AI in the workspace because everyone around me started using it and I felt there has to be something about it that makes people stick with it. So, I started using GPT Workspace for stuff like summarizing docs or drafting rough email templates. So far so good, saves some time. As long as I can use it to skip the repetitive and time-consuming tasks, I'm good.
