Heading to Charlotte After Graduation: Advice on Apartments and Commuting Needed

Will be heading down to Charlotte, NC after graduation in May to work in banking and other similar industries. There's a thread on here called the "Definitive Guide to Analyst Housing in Charlotte" but it is almost 9 years old with no new comments in the last 3 years so I'd like to start a new discussion on housing options for young professionals in finance heading to Charlotte.

Some questions to start the thread: -How has analyst housing in Charlotte changed in recent years? -What neighborhoods/complexes should young professionals avoid (for whatever reasons)? -How is the commute from downtown to South Park (I plan on living with roommates who are working in the city)? Is driving from the city to SP doable on a daily basis; how's traffic?

Any and all advice is appreciated!

I'll be working in one of the buildings near Symphony Park - from what I've seen, the rent is more expensive in South Park than it is in the area I want to live in but I could be wrong (near BofA stadium which is near where my roommates will be working). My budget is ~$1200/month.

Best neighborhood for young people is South End. Bars, breweries, good restaurants, walkable, and tons of young people. Avoid Mosaic, Spectrum, and Colonial Reserve. I've always liked District Flats and Camden Gallery. Camden South End is the best value. Commute is fine. 15-20 min. Traffic is a thing, but it's a cake walk compared to most every other city.

If you want to live close to work, take a look at Park Rd / Montford. DO NOT live in South Park. Average age is 5-7 years older than Park Rd and probably 7-9 older than South End.

Living in Uptown still kind of blows. If you do decide to live there, find a spot by the park or on Stonewall.

And whatever you do, do not under any circumstances live at (Mc)SkyHouse.

Appreciate the input brotha - I'll definitely check out Camden South End. Any reason why you oppose living in Uptown?

From up north and also moving to Charlotte area in a few months. I will be working in the duke energy building...any thoughts on apartments in the area? Or do the ones discussed above still apply?

driving is a breeze. traffic can be a pain in the mornings, especially coming from South Park but it won't take you long or be too hard. CLT is a great city for commuting! soak it up - the knights games are a blast.

local tip: Not Just Coffee is the bomb. Park Roads shopping center has a super fun vibe for chill weekends good assortments of shops.
