While the news is really exciting, as this was the final piece of the puzzle to verify the standard model, no applications (that I know of or can imagine) of the Higgs field/particle are even on the radar. This isn't necessarily the case for other applications of the standard model, which are starting to be put into use. For example, the utilization of quantum dots in cell phone cameras (among other uses) is an application of the standard model that will have investment implications. Something I've noticed, is it seems to take 50-100 years from the verification of an aspect of theoretical physics to reach the end user as some sort of product with investment implications (obviously, this is just an observation, and not a hard and fast rule).

Just my $0.02, as someone much smarter than me may know of an application that can make someone money, who knows.
