How did you guys overcome/deal with your stutter?

Hi Guys,

As you can tell by the title I was wondering if anybody had any advice on how they overcame their stutter. Any books, classes, mindset etc, I would really appreciate it. It's mild but noticeable and seems to intensify at the most inopportune times especially when anxious. It disappears for a couple months, then comes back.

My career has just started and its something I am committed to fix.I 'll eventually be working in NYC if anyone has any class recommendations they went to after work or something along those lines. Any advice or help is really appreciated.

I think your mindset will be your biggest hurdle to overcome. I knew people that had horrible stutters as kids, and now it's 95% improved, comes out sometimes but it's not that noticeable.

How about you shift your mindset from "I have to fix this" to, "I have it", it's ok. Worst case scenario, you'll sound like an owl, that's it... If you become comfortable with this fact, your anxiety will drop, and your stutter will probably decrease as well!

Watch a few videos of comedians that have stutters. Look at how they poke fun at themselves. I'm sure their stutter was 10x worse before embracing it, as anxiety can be a huge contributor to stutters.

Figure out what may trigger your stutter. Is it anxiety/stress related? Are you not exercising/sleeping enough? Might be a good idea to see a therapist to help you find this trigger.

My stuttering friends would see a speech pathologist as kids. However, speech pathologists for adults are expensive, but might be worth it as a last result once you've exhausted the above points..
