Astoria is a 15 min subway ride from Midtown and looks pretty nice from what I've found online. It's also a lot cheaper than most nice areas in Brooklyn. I'm trying to figure out why it's so cheap. Anyone live there before and want to give me input?

All jokes aside, great area. Surprised myself why more people don't love there instead of sucking the shlong off Brooklyn. Most people aren't native New Yorkers so they really would not know about Astoria and Brooklyn is a trend... So there you have it.
Astoria has a lot of ethnic people... just take a walk around there for a while, Queens is the true melting pot of NYC, keeping in mind that there is a lot less enculturation going on in metro Queens (as opposed to Bayside-Whitestone). But with that said there also is not a lot of housing in Astoria. The yellow (subway) line is kinda crappy not that every line doesnt have it's issues.
