How long is your commute?

This past weekend, talk show host Hasan Minhaj did a segment on his show "Patriot Act" on why commutes suck in the US and recently the NYT wrote an article on commute times and the unique ways of getting to and from work. Watching this episode and reading the article was amusing for me as I deal with public transportation daily with a commute that can be upwards of an hour and a half on some days. How do you guys get to work and how long does it usually take you?

5-10 minute drive. The key to living in a city with bad traffic and poor public transit is to live close to where you work.

15-minute walk or 3-4 minutes on an electric scooter. I can get up at 8 and still be in the office by 8:30. It has helped me immensely on those Friday mornings after a night out.

I don't know... Yeah. Almost definitely yes.

About 20-25min going in and 35-45min coming home. I'm typically in at 7 to beat the morning traffic and I'll leave at 4 to finish the day from home.

Been in the same spot before. Barf.

Hope it doesn't destroy you like it did me. 1 hr good day. 2 hrs bad day. The stuff of nightmares.

~10 minute drive if I'm early enough getting in or late enough going home; ~30min if I time it wrong and get caught in traffic. I live a shade over 5 miles from the office.

This is basically what mine is too. I can avoid the highway but then it’s a lot more stop and go with lights, so it evens out. Really only go that route if there’s a large accident.

Door to door to my main office: 45-50 minutes

From my main office to home: 60-90 minutes (I work late so it's usually closer to 60)

To my jobsite: 2 hour drive, 5 minute Bird Scooter ride (offsite parking)

From jobsite to home: 2.5 hours. If I do work for 13 hours that day (after that 2 hour drive to get there), then my commute home drops down to 1.5 hours home.

I am getting reassigned to a different site and will move closer there. This is getting old very fast.

I have a firm rule that I won't live further than 20mins walk from the office, door to desk. To date, having worked in three different cities in Europe, this rule has held firm, however I understand that were I to ever relocate to the US (especially ex-New York), I'd perhaps have to compromise.

Am currently in the process of relocating back to Switzerland and have given the property search team firm instructions to find me prospective properties no further than 20mins from the office.
