How many of you feel locked in to "the scene" in your area?
Open to hear some discussion on the general social landscape of today. Some considerations about social scenes:
1. Geography is huge, I think, because LA and NYC are major global cities, but they're wildly different in terms of normal social behaviors/personalities. And the South is like a whole different world altogether.
2. Age is important because, generationally, the scene changes based on similar upbringings, events, etc.
3. Status is a big factor because while someone may live in your area and be your age, they might not be part of "the scene" or your scene, at the least, if they don't offer something of social significance.
4. Given that most here are professional/white collar types--specifically, a lot of you are in fields related to finance--does the scene even matter to you? Are you part of it?
5. Finally, the internet has made a brand new cut across the social scene in a lot of ways from moving things to digital but also in creating new millionaires.
I was thinking about this because, for the most part, the great American novel was written in the 20s. And even non-American novels that described the social scene is at least as old. Just wondering what are perspectives on the temperature today.
