How much do looks matter in making friends?
26 yo male, don't have many friends and feel like it's my looks that have let me down

Honestly, there are a lot of factors. If you move to a new city and are "good looking" it will likely be harder to make true friends in the sense of finding people like you on the surface. Men are incredibly insecure by and large, so why would they want to add another "good looking" man to their friend group that is reducing their probability of getting laid?
That said, if you have a strong partner (in this case assuming you're a man and have a woman, because that's the only case i can relate to), if you're "good looking" it's much easier because likely the woman is as well. And therefore she has friends that have boyfriends, fiancés, husbands, that are also "good looking" or at least willing to be your friend and it makes it much easier.
Obviously much more nuanced than this, but my life experience.
Looks aren't always important if you're neat, have a sense of humor, and can hold a conversation
cognitive biases, the halo effect I would think. but being ultra confident can make up for that easily
