How to use an offer in negotiating higher compensation?
Historically, I’ve always left my current role when presented with a higher offer. I like my current firm but am not certain my compensation will increase come review time - I’m confident I can land offers with, at minimum, a higher base salary.
Understand it’s not a given, but say I have 2-3 offers. How do I present these in negotiations with my current firm? I don’t want to leave, but give me $30k more and I’ll do it. Actually made less this year (if bonuses are what I think they’ll be) than I did last year which I am not too happy with, but I’ve learned a ton and sharpened my technical skills.
Pretty sure people know my account so bossman if you see this, PAY THE MAN.
Following. Have always felt I played this wrong. One time I got lucky, had no formal offer but candidly told my boss that the market was well above my current rate. Wouldn’t recommend that approach, but I think they knew I was underpaid.
The next time I actually had a formal offer I ended up leaving.
Interested now though because I’m once again below market, but I like my current gig. It’s a big corp, and I’m unsure how to go about negotiating
