How/where/when to travel

Hi all,

I am an analyst in the AM of a BB now. While I did not grow up dirt poor, I did not have the means to travel abroad yearly like a lot of people do and my abroad family vacations were kept to one every 3-4 years or so. I was excited for study abroad which was obviously disrupted by COVID. After graduating, I was able to take a 15 day trip to Spain and France with my friends and absolutely loved it. I want to maximize my 20s in being able to travel. Given the industry we are in, we obviously do not have as much flexibility and leeway and I want to maximize the one or two times a year I could take one week off to travel. Currently me and my friends are thinking about going to Holland (see Amsterdam/Rotterdam) or Turkey (Istanbul/Cappadocia) this year. Was wondering what other places should I prioritize seeing in the next few years. While I love partying, I also value history so would love to go places with that in mind.

India is a great place to be, it is cheap, full of history and culture and has a lot of spots where you can party hard. I’d suggest planning a longer holiday so that you can go to more places since it is extremely diverse and no two states are the same.

sethwhoGo to Iceland. It's breathtaking.

a younger, dumber me took a budget airline flight to europe. it was billed as "non-stop" but they had to switch to a 737 at the last minute had to stop in iceland for gas. based on the view from the airport I disagree.

The joke was on them tho.  I complained, and they went bankrupt before they could reply, so I got a full refund.

The only difference between Asset Management and Investment Research is assets. I generally see somebody I know on TV on Bloomberg/CNBC etc. once or twice a week. This sounds cool, until I remind myself that I see somebody I know on ESPN five days a week.

June the sun is out from 4am to 11pm so you have lots of time.

Day 1 arrive and go to Reykjavik. Recommend renting a car and checking out the city. City is small and you will get good feel.

Golden circle takes 1 full day, rent a car (recommend renting a car the whole trip I used blue car or something, super easy) come back to Reykjavik.

There are “super jeep” tours and “f roads”. You want to do this. Take a super jeep tour of the south coast. You’ll start in Reykjavik then see cool shit.

Go see puffins and whales in northeastern Iceland.

I did not have the chance to visit the lava areas or many ice caves, but look into those as well.

You’ll find plenty with that info. ❤️

Definitely second the Turkey idea. Istanbul was insane - cool people from my experience, amazing food, really cool history. Also isn’t as expensive as other parts of Europe/Asia. Sadly can’t speak much for other parts of Turkey but I would be interested in exploring further.

I think another common shout will be SE Asia. Dollar goes a long way so you can have a pretty insane time for not much dough. So much to do and some cool cultures for sure. One of my coolest experiences was going on a cross-country motorcycle trip through rural Burma. Pretty rough but such a cool experience esp coming from a first world country. There’s also the usual suspects Phuket/Bangkok, Bali, Saigon, etc. The only bitch is getting there, esp if you’re based on the east coast, but totally worth it once you’re there. Have fun dude! We’re the lucky ones!
