I Scared Off a PE Firm

A PE firm posted to my school's career site. I applied a few hours later and went to bed. The next morning, I get am e-mail from someone in the firm saying something like, "Thanks for sending us Little Engine's resume. Is the posting up already? That was fast." whatever

He didn't realize that it's a "do-not-reply" message that sends them our resumes and his reply got forwarded to me.

I reply with something like,
"Mr. PE Sire,

Your e-mail redirected to me.Yes, it's posted as of this morning.

Regards,
Me
My cellie numbah"

He replies saying 'thanks' and that they'll be in touch with me within the next few days.

The next day, the listing is removed from my school's career site. My resume was so bad that they decided to not look any further at a school in which swine like me resides.

I found this amusing as all hell and had to share.

How do you know the motivation for the listing removal?

You just screwed over your school's reputation

Can't be worse than NYU and Deutsche Bank - 5 or so years ago DB gave out a large number of offers, and no one accepted - now they don't even do on campus recruiting anymore.

Ivey and CS LA is the same.

Don't worry, you haven't scared anyone.

You didn't do anything wrong so you can only wait to hear from them. Don't hold your breath, but I doubt you've screwed yourself over in any way

What size PE firm was it?

Just a handful of partners and an associate. All from much better schools than mine, so I don't know why they're looking here.

Could be a location thing? (especially if they're not in new york but in a region that doesn't have a lot of other PE presence).

I once sent in a bogus resume to Goldman Sachs. Bought a burner cell phone for the phone interview. And told the interviewer to hold on second I needed to get line of blow in before the interview to be sharp. I think the interviewer was so shocked and taken aback she actually waited.
