IB dating/relationships

Hi Everyone,

Rising junior at a LAC in Massachusetts here. Just accepted a 2021 IBD SA offer at a BB in NY. My boyfriend graduated from the same college this year and is starting as a FT IB analyst at a BB in NYC as well. I am currently back at my parent's house in Atlanta and he just moved to NY. We've been together for a year. For those of you in IB, how do you manage relationships/dating given the tough hours? We'll be in different cities for the next two years until I hopefully move to NY for FT. While I really want to maximize the amount of time that we spend together, I also want him to know that I am very supportive of his career (like he is of mine) and completely okay with him working the weekends/cancelling dates etc. I know he's been nervous about this. Having gone through IB recruiting myself, I have heard enough stories from bankers about never being able to make plans/spending time with their partners. Don't want this to affect our relationship.

Any insights and advice would be appreciated. Thank you!
