If a firm has the name "Partners" in it, does that mean they have partners like at a law firm?
So like, for example, Capstone Partners has the word "Partners" in their official name so does that mean you could become a partner at that firm kind of like at a law firm?
Not necessarily. They could have partners in their name, be an LLC, yet be taxed like a C-Corp, S-Corp, or a partnership. If it was an LLC and taxed as a partnership they would be members of the entity and partners on the tax return.
For example, PJT Partners, Inc. is a C-Corporation yet has partners in the name and is publicly traded.
I actually think in most contexts where the word "Partner" is used in the name of a firm, it's meant to refer to how they serve as partners to their portfolio companies or clients (whatever the case may be)...and not a reference to the firm's structure.
