I'm Thinking of Writing Again

So, s few years ago I published a couple papers.  These aren't jokes, but I'll skip the details to keep things anonymous (You went to HBS, cool. can I tell you about the paper I co-authored with your prof?)

I'm thinking about writing again.  I can't find anything that does exactly what I want to do in this paper, and I'm debating how I should do it.  I kind of want to just write it off-hours, but I need data from S&P, MSCI, FTSE & M* that I can only pull via work subscriptions.  I know Ben Johnson & can probably ping him on Twitter for M* permission. (FTSE & S&P are also likely OKs if needed) but I'm debating how to proceed.  If I represent this as work then all the licensing rights go away, but I have to deal with compliance.  Work would also own it then.
