So my firm has been nice enough to give me 1 complete month off. Going to do a california roadtrip with a buddy, but first flying out to NYC to catch independence day from there (sounds epic). 4th of July in NYC? To be honest, most people leave for the beaches.
You'll have a MUCH easier time getting good reservations at restaurants/clubs/shows/etc. Most locals are in Jersey or Long Island.

just be aware that any good spots would be like the subway during rush hour.. and you need to get to them a couple of hours in advance ...
Get up to the choppa (and head out east to the beach).

Pretty sure it's on the east river this year. I live close to the river and my building's management have been continually sending announcements of how certain areas around the river will be blocked off.
