So my firm has been nice enough to give me 1 complete month off. Going to do a california roadtrip with a buddy, but first flying out to NYC to catch independence day from there (sounds epic). I would love to hear some insider information regarding the day and what to do during the day and night from people actually living there!

4th of July in NYC? To be honest, most people leave for the beaches.
You'll have a MUCH easier time getting good reservations at restaurants/clubs/shows/etc. Most locals are in Jersey or Long Island.

just be aware that any good spots would be like the subway during rush hour.. and you need to get to them a couple of hours in advance ...

I think fireworks will be on the west side this year?
Pretty sure it's on the east river this year. I live close to the river and my building's management have been continually sending announcements of how certain areas around the river will be blocked off.
