Yea, pretty stupid. But, if you look at the specs, and the new SIRI voice app, and the camera, and iOS5... if they had put it in a new shell and called it the iPhone 5 nobody would be complaining and it would be called revolutionary...

8MP camera, 1080p video, dual core processor... its a pretty impressive device, they just didn't want to spend the R&D cost on coming up with a new case I guess.

If they had put it in a new shell, I would be first in line to get one, but since they didn't, I'll be sticking with my 4 for a while most likely, and hoping the next model will be 4G.

GetgoWhat a big let down. Sure the games will be processed 7x faster, and it comes with the best "still camera" technology, but overall, this was the biggest let down since the last typical blackberry released by RIM.

Thoughts?

I definitely wasn't impressed with it, but I use a BlackBerry and am probably biased at least somewhat just because I dislike a touch screen only phone. I agree that most of the BlackBerry launches have been lackluster in the past, but I have a new Bold 9930 now and it is a very solid device. I was pleasantly surprised with it to say the least.

It's going to take a little more than this launch to get me to upgrade to an iPhone next time around. I don't care about fancy cameras, video games on the phone, or the cloud. For those that already use an iPhone, though, it'll keep customers with Apple.

ERGOHOC8MP, really? What is this 2007? Samsung launched 12 MP 2 years ago and is soon launching 20MP

MP means very little when it comes to picture quality, MP has more to do with the size of the picture and not the quality.

This is not just a huge letdown, it also marks the turning point of Apple's fortunes. Once you start competing on specs, you are fucked. Apple used to be revolutionary, a promoter of cut-through design and innovation through a radical thinking-outside-the-box approach. Boring incrementalism, like a better camera was left to the kids. I can understand that they have run out of ideas for innovation. But you seriously cannot come up with a new design in 15 months? I would have bought this mediocre phone, if it looked nice and was something I could show off. Hell, I would have bought anything new, because my current iPhone is taped and broken.

The worst thing is that most of the new specs are unnecessary. I never had a problem with processing speed and connection speed is limited by carriers anyway. The sad thing is also how AAPL always tries to show an innovative approach. The main unique selling proposition of the last iPhone was FaceTime. I have never used this piece of shit. This time we have the lame voice recognition. It is basically limited to a few simple commands, such as weather, stocks and dictating. Not much cooler than what Android has to offer. Clearly noone will ever use this feature, except for trying it out.

The clear winners are GOOG and AMZN. Android phones will have an edge in a matter of weeks. Google is innovative. AMZN is not that innovative in terms of technology, but it has an innovative pricing scheme. AAPL is doomed.

I wouldn't say doomed but this seems to be the beginning of the end, also siri seems like it could be amazing.. but that remains to be seen.

I'm getting sick of the iOS interface. I'm also terribly disappointed at the 'new' iPhone. I don't need a better camera. I don't need to have sick graphics to play stupid games on my phone. And I sure as hell am not going to yell voice commands to my phone and look like a complete douche.

Sure, the specs are objectively good.. but if you think about it, all they really did was play catch-up with the specs. What a disappointing product. Tim Cook didn't even present the phone. This was Apple's time to shine by having an awesome presentation with an awesome, new iPhone. None of those happened.

Time to get a Windows phone. Check out the HTC Titan, guys. It's sick.
