Is Chelsea a good neighborhood to live in?
Any of you familiar with this area in Manhattan? I did some research and its a predominately gay and female area. But it has some good places to hangout out at and the high line isn't too far away. Thoughts?
high-line is just a walkway, not that crazy.
i would recommend going downwards to west village, its far better. however, chelsea is still better than 90% of the east side
Ya, it's great. But as the above poster mentioned, the high line is just an elevated sidewalk with a lot of joggers and children. It's great every so often in the summer to sit, but not something to put major weight in when choosing where to live.
Good place to live, especially if you have to work in midtown.
hows the nightlife? Is it full of the bridge and tunnel crowd?
Chelsea is okay, you can always go up to the meatpacking district for the nicer clubs/lounges.
East and west village are decent for apartments as well, as long as you don't go too east and hit the alphabet city/avenue a area. The problem with going too far west/east is the lack of subways, which will kill you in the summertime.
The worst part though, is living on the west side area and working in the east side area (like a lot of people in midtown do). There are no subways that'll take you across avenues, plus you get shafted in the summer and come into work all sweaty.
I live in the West Village as an analyst (I pay 1600 a month for a decent place) and I work in Midtown about a block away from Grand Central. I usually have to walk to the 1 and then take the shuttle to grand central. It's about a 25 minute commute in total including the walking. Sort of sucks and makes me want to get in the east village next year.
I live in West Village and it takes me 11 minutes exact to get from door to door. B, D subway to 42nd, walk right out to companys door. West Village >>>>>> East Village
BUD: I gather you're a decorator.
DARIEN: You got it, a great spender of other people's money.
BUD: Well, if you're that good, you could probably do wonders at my place.
DARIEN: Where is it?
BUD: Upper West Side.
DARIEN: (losing interest fast) Oh really. Home of the exposed brick wall and the (shudders) houseplant.
BUD: Oh it's just a rental. I'm moving to the East Side soon. I've got a couple of deals brewing with Gordon.
chelsea is wunderbar if you're trying to pick up dudes, otherwise, save your money because it's fucking expensive too.
what are your thoughts on this?
