Is Chicago safe?

Some of you may remember the trending “Is New York City Safe?” thread from a few weeks back. I’m starting to wonder the same about Chicago. I’ve heard stories about thugs taking public transit and wreaking havoc in nice neighborhoods. Is this exaggerated or is it really that rough out there? And how do current conditions compare to Chicago on a normal day?

Edit: [https://www.wallstreetoasis.com/forums/violence-i… Just for reference, this is where I read about the violence at Chicago. Given that crime is up in a lot of cities this summer, I was wondering how things are holding up today.

Turn off Fox News. You’ll be fine. It has safe neighborhoods and more dangerous neighborhoods like every other city on Earth.

"I don't know how to explain to you that you should care about other people."

Man some people don't get sarcasm (not you, the MS thrower)

But to answer your OP, I think the news is being exaggerated since the media likes to do that. My friend is studying at Rush U and I don't think he's feared for his safety. Of course the trendy neighborhoods like Gold Coast, River North, Loop, etc are safe. It's like NYC, overall one of the safest cities, but has it's bad pockets. That said, don't be going south of Interstate 55.
