I saw this article floating around on my LinkedIn and eventually gave in and clicked it.
Surprisingly, it wasn't just random nonsense but actually provided data to backup the claim that divorce actually is easier to recover from than getting fired. This is hard to believe as you need to get married first to get divorced, and you only get married if you're really happy. On the other hand, many people take jobs "just to pay the bills" and probably don't feel nearly as invested in them as they would their partner.
How do you guys feel about this? Surprised? Not surprised? Personally I was shocked. But if there is any place where people would put more value on their job than personal relationships, it's probably WSO.

The article says "unemployed people continue to become increasingly unhappy over the next few years" which makes me think that it's talking about people stuck in unemployment long-term after getting fired. Plenty of people move on to similar/better jobs not long after getting fired in fields like finance though..

The thing is, if your dad is rich enough, you don't need girls or steady income, but you still get both. That's what I'm tryina tell these young kids these days man. They're all focused on the wrong stuff.

Damn right. I don't like the idea of entering a legally binding 3 way between me, a woman and the state. Then she can divorce at any time for any reason and I have to relinquish half of my assets and pay alimony from my future income. She still gets $$$ and therefore provided by and protected after but is she gonna have to come over and still ride my cawk or cook me dinner? So she benefits after the divorce but not me. Marriage is too much financial risk and there is no added benefit to marrying that you can't have in a relationship. Is marrying going make her cook, clean, have sex, companionship, etc? I can get all that from her without marrying. Marriage is like a life insurance policy for her on my dime. Fuck that. Fuck marriage.

Get divorced= get half of your assets stolen from you(or go to jail if you don't pay up) and pay alimony on your future earnings into perpetuity(or until she remarries). Possibly child support too. You have no option to opt out. In short, you're fucked.
Get fired= no more future money from that company. Can be difficult to gain future employment after this but it's not impossible to gain new employment and you can also fall back on a friend, family member or connection to hook you up with a new job.
It's your call but the decision is obvious to me. Only a fool gets married.
Yeah getting fired probably is worse unless you're the type of short-sighted and impulsive fool who got married without an adequate contingency plan and/or is emotionally weak enough to get really fucked up by the rejection of divorce.
Situational dependent really. You have all read stories about people saying in hindsight that firing or divorce ended up being the best thing that ever happened to me.
