Job Strategy with no Investment Banking Experience

Can somebody give me an advice regarding job strategy.

What is the best way getting an interview in Investment Banking Field in Middle and small Investment Firm that focusses in niche industry in this tough market. Somebody recommended me to just send the resume and cover letter to all small banks even if they are not hiring and call back in couple weeks as cold calling. That person applied to about 300 banks jobs, and will start working in a small boutique analyst position without any Finance background. Because lot of them do not post the job opening at their company website. She recommended to first email to HR, then try to Fax and last option is to send it to via mailing address:

Can somebody give me a recommendation for regional boutique firm, I just want an idea. I found Head-hunter are tougher route if you do not have any Investment Banking Experience and I am trying a Lateral Analyst or Associate transition role.

Please give me some feed-back..I would really appreciate

Thankyou
