Juris Masters (JM)
Has anyone ever heard of a Juris Masters (JM)? Marketed to be a one-year law crash course. A few good schools have them (e.g. Emory). I wanted to get peoples thoughts on these for business professionals with no interest in sitting for the bar or practicing law.
Beneficial or total hoax?
I would be interested to hear what others think.
I find the legal side of M&A extremely interesting, but not interesting enough to want to become an M&A lawyer. I have been looking at similar programs as a way to expand my legal knowledge and because my employer has a very generous tuition reimbursement program, but the programs always have some sort of requirement that prevents me from signing up (e.g. the program is not entirely online or meets in another city).
My law degree took me 5 years. Each subject, to a large degree, builds on the last in some way. Even then, I stumbled out of university naive and it took a few years in practice to refine that knowledge, plus on the job learning, into a skillset that was relevant to banking.
I'm skeptical that you could get much out of a 1 year crash course.
