Just got an office - hell yeah

I'm two-in-a-row for random shitposts here within 48 hours. Had to share though, I'm fucking JUICED.

Got an office for the first time in my life. I know it's pretty common for ASO+ to have their own space, and I've been divorced from the analyst bullpen for a couple of years now. However, while our desks were larger and spread out, I was still out in the open. That changed this AM.

We had a VP in a different asset department move from DC -> NY, but didn't think much of it. Walked into work this morning - MD pulled me aside and did the big unveil. It is BEAUTIFUL. My wife thinks I'm silly for getting a hard-on for 10x11' of glass. The last guy installed electronic shades though, which is a game-changer.

Honestly, REALLY nice to have my own space. Our DC office is a little cramped, albeit it's the HQ and 'historic' and all that shit so I've always enjoyed the building overall. I've been super jealous of the Santa Monica guys for a while now - they got their fancy-ass renovation a couple of years back!

Feel free to drop some design tips for the new pad. I was walking to lunch yesterday and saw a 6' tall White Bird of Paradise in a plant shop window. If it's still there today, I'm definitely copping it. Also considering ditching my two 27' monitors and getting a singular 34' curved UW for some smooth shit. I should probably also start doing actual work now, as I've spent the entirety of the day goofing off & we have to deal with a shit-ton of recruiting stuff. If you're currently in PE recruiting and haven't heard from us, know it's probably because I've been procrastinating - my bad!

Just wanted to share. Hope you all have a stellar week!

Congrats man, I had an office but new place has ASOs in the bullpen which sucks, although my particular desk is somewhat isolated in a way.

Tbh I'm not a fan of the curved screens as much as I thought, but we've barely in the office so I'll have to use it more. Had a role with 2 monitors that I pushed apart and had my laptop in between that was a bit lower, kind of like a V formation. Now it's like of a giant one curved screen and laptop on lower right, just feels weird personally but to each their own.

NYC PE office with DC HQ, hm...

Thanks G. Are you all grouped w/ analysts too or is it like a separate thing? Analyst desk was compartmentalized into a couple of different open rooms, w/ desks jammed up linearly. Associate side was a little nicer, L-shaped and U-shaped desks with a little more space on a different floor.

Thoughts on curved screens? I'm debating on getting a monitor stand, as I just have the two of 'em angled with their stock stands. I think one of those ones you clip on the back of your desk and attached to the VESA mount would be great if I'm trying to maximize desk space. They gave me a desk but it's kind of a POS so I'm browsing IKEA for another L-shaped one. The Dell S3422DW is the one I was eyeing for a curved monitor, my wife has the older monitor which she uses at home. I have two Samsung 24's and a 90* angled Samsung FT45. Works well, but I'd love to consolidate it all to one big-ass screen LOL. My boss has the Samsung 49" curved one, and it's beautiful. Looks like a cockpit.

We're all grouped together. It's a really weird set up as to who gets an office, can't go into specifics about it sadly.

It sounds she has a nice setup and the L shaped desk would be great. Not sure if Ikea still has them (or if they ever did), but a standing desk is huge imo. I really want to get one for home since we're almost fully remote and barely in the office ever. Those mount clips sound like a great idea though to really maximize desk space, I have a fucking landline still just sitting on my desk for no reason.

Proud of you! Living the dream.

I had an office the size of a phone booth before going remote. I don’t miss it.

Was gonna tell gufmo to take 20% off and pump the brakes. But I don't know the history.

34" curved UHW is a great idea. Nothing wrong with 27" UHDs, since I keep three of my own on my desk. Don't know too much about the Dells, but make sure you get an IPS or VA panel. Singing the same old song, but when you spend all day reading a screen, make sure it's the right kind.

Having your own office is fantastic, especially when it's meant for six people and it's just yours.

UHD... I wish. They're just run-of-the-mill Dell 1080p ones, honestly, I don't know the model. They were here when I moved to the office a couple of years ago, and they've worked well ever since. Figured now I can splurge a little bit. Honestly, the 2x27 is a little big for me, although I always say that until I really need to utilize them. Will check out the IPS panels... just need to get a proper docking station as my current one is a little lacking. Thinking I'm gonna go for one of those extended mousepads as well.

One of the higher up MDs / heads at a bank my friend worked at installed a panic button under his desk. Press it and the door to his office instantly locks, and apparently he also had it wired up so that he wouldn't get people poaching his wireless signals / jammed things if he pressed the button.

Dude was a rainmaker but somehow so thick he couldn't figure out why he had terrible phone signal in his office. Nutter.
