Keeping Combat Out of the Office with Bulletproof Briefs

Frankly, throughout college I was always a backpack guy. I could just never get my head around messenger bags. Most of the time they didn't even have enough room for all the crap I lugged around. Now that I'm (somewhat) in the real world I have been considering a switch to something a little more sophisticated and professional. This, however, might be a bit overkill.

Thoughts on this statement?

If I were a bank executive, I would get one. It only takes one OWS deadbeat putting down the bong for a handgun.

The office just doesn’t do this leather briefcase justice. With a snap of the wrist, the Kevlar-enforced tote opens up into a ballistic shield that will protect against handgun rounds up to .44 Magnum and against 9mm submachine gun rounds. Made by China’s Leison Global, it costs $479 and might make you feel a little more like Captain America.

I'm really not even sure of the need for a ballistic bulletproof briefcase but it looks pretty freaking awesome to me. Obviously, this isn't exactly targeted at the New York crowd. This looks to be designed for those of you in less savory environments (Mexico or Argentina maybe) who need that extra personal protection above and beyond bodyguards.

Turns out, these bags are mostly used by the super rich (go figure) as an additional protective measure. Not sure i'd drop $500 on one but If I were trekking around hot spots where violence is prone I'd probably consider it. What do you guys think? A little overkill? Does this even make sense for areas of conflict, or are people who buy this simply paranoid? Frankly, they lost me when they said it couldn't stop a 7.62 from an AK. Totally bush league.

Am I the only one who thought this would be a Mitt Romney "magic underwear" joke?

They have their own security detail.

And speaking of Moynihan his 2010 cost of security was a mere $801 compared to Blankfein's $300,000+.

I meant just being in public spaces. A security detail probably isn't conducting surveillance of surrounding buildings like the secret service, and they probably are not going to take a bullet for their clients. Having been uncomfortably close to some OWS types, I would say there are a ton of mentally unstable/ill people in that movement.

But that security information is interesting. I am a little surprised Schwarzman spends 150k on security. 99% of America has no idea who he is. I guess to ward off any would-be hostage takers?

And props to Moynihan. He clearly took the balls from Merrill's bull for his own use.
