Kids as a waste of money

After reading 200+ posts and discussing around I have come to tgis conclusion that basically kids are money sucking animals and one should not have kids. They are such a waste of enormous time and money. I would rather have more money to spend on myself or retire early than have a kid suck away all my money

When a boy becomes a man, he will realize that the important things in life can't be bought with money.

You are the culmination of generations of warriors, explorers, hunters, pioneers- all looking to create a better life for themselves and their progeny. A man dies his final death when he and his name are forgotten.

But you- you are small minded, only care for the here and now. Let me guess- you hate the boomers for only thinking of themselves? for trying to suck every last dollar out of the systems they benefitted so much from?

But you are no different. You too have no desire to leave something better, to have kids and work to better their future.

You and your kind are why we no longer deserve a democracy. You are the weak men creating hard times.

Yes. It works when people are smart, informed, and have skin in the game both currently and for the future.

Smart: this is decreasing by the year. Literacy rates dropping, grades and test scores dropping, standards dropping.

Informed: the news is a cesspool.

Skin in the game: Investment and home ownership are decreasing, fewer people are having kids. Religion and the concept of eternal life (ie, any reason to focus beyond the temporal) are dropping.

The above was the bedrock of democracy. Now we have a country racking up debt to trade the future for today's gibs, letting a deluge of illegal immigration to gain cheap goods while undercutting decent paying jobs, people accepting behaviors that lead to severe medical problems down the road. Each of these are the result of the same short-sightedness that is exemplified by the people who would rather not have kids because it means they get to enjoy their 30s less.

Plenty of studies show that when you have kids you are less happy in your 30s, but are significantly happier in your 50s and beyond. It is a significant net positive for life happiness. So, worth it? Yes. And that is even if the concept of continuing your bloodline or striving to be the patriarch of a great family isn't a motivator for you as it is for me.

When you’re 80 and frail, taking your last breaths at your nursing home (alone)… do you think the fact you were able to afford one more super car at 60 will make you happy?

Two things:

  1. Why do people such as yourself start sentences with “I mean” all the time at the moment? Are you implying that everything you say otherwise is something you don’t really mean? The English language is being bastardised to pieces these days.
  1. It certainly will make you happier when you see the achievements of the child you did those things for, when you see the joy in your child’s face, when you see your child that you raised grow up to be an adult in their own right and when you see the appreciation and reciprocative care that adult provides to you at your times of need.

While I have my personal thoughts about having kids which I will keep personal, it's interesting that everyone here is so star eyed about having kids. Having a kid is the biggest responsibility on earth, and judging by the number of messed up people in the world, it's obvious most people should not be having kids. Add in diseases, accidents, chronic illnesses, depression, overpopulation, etc it's also obvious that bringing a life to the world is not all roses like people make it seem.

People like OP who don't want kids and know it are much better than those who have kids because they heard kids make you fill your inner emptiness or because all their friends are having kids, or just because that's what you're meant to do. Even worse, because 'who will take care of you when you're old' smh.

The world needs less people not more. Life is fundamentally hard. Only have kids if you are ready for it and know deep inside you are.

I definitely don't think that declining birth rates are necessarily a bad thing. With AI and robotics advancing, there will be less need for labor/manpower. Having kids just to fill out the workforce is also not a good reason to bring life into the world in this day and age.

It's like they view having kids as an accessory. It's a commitment that lots of people think they are ready for but really are not. That's why you see lots of kids who hate their parents - from what I've seen, usually because the parents had them for the wrong reasons.

Funny, I've usually only seen this with divorced parents. All the older folks I know without kids are usually the happiest people I've known.

You know what they say about a sample of one...

I just put my two beautiful, young kids to bed so I’ll speak to this post a bit. The expression is 100% true, if you don’t have them you likely cannot understand and that is ok. One day, if you choose, and if God blesses you with them, you will see. When your kids are born, there is an IMMEDIATE bond that you have never felt in your life. Ever. The love you have for your children is God-tier, it is so strong that it essentially immediately supersedes the very strong love you likely have for your parents or your own siblings or anyone else you feel deeply connected to. Once they are able to communicate that bond only grows and you begin to see the world through their eyes; the questions they ask about the sky, animals, god, how cars work, why does daddy go to work… these things give you new grounding and new meaning as to why you are on earth and the importance of sharing your knowledge and experiences with them. They even look like you, that is on purpose, you will see yourself staring back at you - it’s surreal and awesome. The love you give your kids comes back to you 10 fold, it’s truly amazing.  There are big challenges but those challenges are worth it.  IMO Children are God or any higher powers way of saying life must go on and will go on.

With that said, enjoy your youth, run up the score young buck, chase women and money and have fun, but if the time comes, you’ll find yourself telling your friends - this is the best thing that has ever happened to me.
