Hey all,
Bunch of celebratory occasions coming up for me and my family, and I'd like to buy a relatively nice bottle of scotch for us to share. Which do you prefer: Lag 16, Laphroaig 10, or something else? Generally speaking, we all like peaty/intense whiskeys, and I'm thinking of getting some cigars to pair with whatever 5th I end up getting.

Lagavulin 16 and its not even close
I once tried Laphroaig and pretty much vomited on the bar table.
My go-to has always been macallan 12. It works for me and i see no reason to switch. Dont @ me scotch snobs
Bought 4 cohibas for my dad. He didnt want em so I ended up smoking them. Works for me
If you like the peaty taste then Lag 16 wins by a mile.
Both Islay, peaty single malts. Lag is definitely my favorite of the two. Alternate would be Talisker if you're looking for a more bold flavor.
Look to Speyside distilleries for a more balanced and smooth whisky. Balvenie, Glenfiddich and Cragganmore are a few I enjoyed.
Lag 16 hands down, if you want another peaty alternative, I'd consider Ardbeg.
Lag 16 is very good but as a general rule, drink whiskies that are old enough to drink themselves (18+)

If you're having whiskey with cigars then I suggest either a Talisker or Bowmore 18 yrs. If you also like rum, Pyrat XO rum with cigars is amazing.
As for cigars, the classics such as Montecristo and Cohiba are always good but Trinidad and Sancho Panza are lesser known brands that have great smokes (from 30 mins to 1 hour).
Interesting, why those over Lagavulin 16? New to pairing whiskey and cigars, but I'd think that a fairly rich/intense dram would work well?
