Leadership a waste of time?
After speaking to a number of students who participate in leadership programs at undergraduate business schools I am noticing these programs are very similar.
The short of it is, the leadership students are afforded experiences and events (unrelated to investment banking) that other students are not afforded in exchange for a large chunk of the students time (extra classes and papers). Often times this leads to a student allocating more time to the leadership program than other campus activities.
For students interested in banking, the programs do not specifically cater to that interest (especially at a non-target school). The programs become a time consuming resume builder...
Do these programs add enough value? Would a student with banking aspirations be better off leaving the program and spending time doing security analysis on his/her own?
What does WSO think... is it worth it?
EC leadership positions are 99% bullshit but you gotta fill up that white-space somehow when your a non-target sophomore.
