Lesbian Coworker

A few questions for you:

1. There's a girl on my team, very smart and competent. I never even thought she could be gay, because she wears makeup and dresses and heels - all very feminine. Obviously I know not all lesbians look like dykes, but I don't even think she's femme. Could she be bi?

2. What do you think of a lesbian coworker, professionally? Asking because I never had to deal with one (or one that I know) at work. Are they more like dudes (so no female bullshit stuff) and just easier to deal with at work?

Enlighten me!

what part of OP's question reflects immaturity? many people have legitimately never met anyone of LGBT orientation before

.

Really?

Fine, if this isn't trolling.

  1. Lesbians can look like people, because they are. Sexuality is a continuum, she might also enjoy relations with men.

  2. Does she act professional? Do you? If you didn't know her affinity for woman would you say or do anything different? If yes, you might not be professional.

Treat her like any other coworker. All people are different, gauge how she reacts to your statements and build an opinion from there. Why the hell would you try and extrapolate what kind of person she is without trying to get to know her?

Lets make this very simple. Unless she happens to be out and open about being out, she's just another coworker. If she happens to be out and open about it, she's still just another coworker. Just accept it as that and don't give it a second thought. Judge her on her ability as a banker and who she is as a person and you're fine. The moment you don't and you're setting yourself up for failure. And if you are trying to sleep with her - don't. Just don't. It has bad idea written all over it.

I'm cool with anyone except furries

Those who can, do. Those who can't, post threads about how to do it on WSO.

Fuck her, thats an irrational hatred of someone she hasn't even met yet. Don't know why you would want to keep around such a judgemental person in your workplace, egos like that are definitely not needed in the finance world right now.

"Alternatively, also hire her lesbian dorm mate as an intern to get some admin duties off your shoulders."

This, just make sure you film her reaction when you introduce her to the "new girl"

Op, your username is spectacular. Nothing of value to add. However, most women are crazy.

hahahaha oh whew, so im not the insane one here. alright! man i know i should just ignore it but i'm gonna have to work with this girl for the next 3 months, many times 20 hour days/nights. she drives me nuts, and not in the good way

blah.

I agree with hiring the lesbian from her dorm room to teach her a lesson about keeping her bigotry to herself. That would be awesome! You should ask her what the name of lesbian is and then recruit her.

Make sure you get her off your group.

The answer to your question is 1) network 2) get involved 3) beef up your resume 4) repeat -happypantsmcgee WSO is not your personal search function.

You need to sit her down and, in no uncertain terms, explain to her that personal bias or opinions have no place in the office. What if your MD's daughter was a lesbian and heard that? How do you think that would reflect on you for not jumping on it right away? What if someone in your office overheard and made an issue out of it.

Take care of that shit now and set the tone.

I am playing devil's advocate here, maybe she told you that because she trusts you? She thinks she can confide in you somehow? This of course does not justify her disgusting behavior, but she's a 21 year old girl...and most probably, she had live a sheltered life so far and doesn't have much exposure to anything.

In a non-formal setting you should tell her that you were very uncomfortable with what she said and tell her to never repeat such things because they will come down and haunt her until the day she turns gay.

Also, slap her. Twice.

i love that I got shit for giving an actual answer instead of some stupid joke about vaginas. This place is becoming a joke.
