Libidos of the Rich and Powerful

You know that anti-virus program you have on your PC that constantly asks for new updates every week or so? McAfee something? It's current founder may have been gone crazy off synthetic drugs, shot a man, and hid in a cardboard box.

I'm sure you've all heard by now of (former) millionaire John McAfee's current troubles with the Belize police. After losing most of his net worth during the economic crisis, he moved to Belize to "start a pharmaceutical company and ferry business." Rumors around the internet are that he started messing around with bath salts, and shortly after, developed some issues with his fellow ex-pat neighbor... who ended up dead by gunshot. Since then, he's been on the run, and the story gets more strange by the day.

According to this article, McAfee, who now has been hiding in a cardboard box on a beach for several days, is terrified by the Belize police:

When people are in Belize are put in jail, McAfee said, "They just simply disappear. They choke on their own vomit, or hang themselves, or are beaten to death by fellow prisoners. If you found any research on Belize and the legal and police system you would have discovered this fact yourself."

A part of me wants to believe that he truly has reason to fear the Belize police. As much as we may hate on American police forces, they are some of the most regulated and transparent police in the world. Yet, at the same time, it's difficult not to think that McAfee may just be really, really paranoid because he did too many drugs. According to this article, McAfee also "extolled the virtues of [bath salts/MDPV] in several posts on a drug-friendly Russian message board." His reason for getting into the drug, however, was what sparked this post:

'I’m a huge fan of MDPV. I think it's the finest drug ever conceived, not just for the indescribable hypersexuality, but also for the smooth euphoria and mild comedown,' he wrote.

I can't make a call on whether Mr. McAfee is in legitimate trouble, or whether he's gone off the edge. What I will note, however, is how often rich and powerful men have insane sex drives. Look at four star general Petraeus. The man gave up his reputation and career in a momentary lapse of judgment. Dominique Strauss-Kahn and Bill Clinton were willing to give up entire Presidencies for sex. In one of Donald Trump's books, he mentions that whenever he dreams, it's always sexual.

It is hard to say whether a high libido is a cause or an effect of success and power. Is a man driven to action by his desire for resources, which will thereby enable him to seduce the quality women of his dreams? Or do the urges come after the achievement of success, for it triggers the rush of testosterone?

Perhaps John McAfee got into bath salts because he believed a high libido would help him in his new business ventures. At this rate, we'll never really know, but he certainly can't be having too much success in anything at the moment. What do you guys think about success and libido? Does one come before the other?
