LinkedIn Job Update

Hi everyone,

I was wondering if there is alright (or not) to share job updates on LinkedIn with connections, especially if the role is not in a tier 1-2 consultancy / BB banks / FAANG, etc.

Thanks for your inputs!

Four options here, from most tight-lipped to least:

1) Don’t post at all. Useful for when you’re not recruiting for anything or don’t want people to know what you’re doing.

2) Update the profile, but uncheck the box for it pushing a notification message out to other connections you have on there. They’ll be able to see you’ve switched over, but they have to go in manually; it doesn’t get announced.

3) Same as 2 but it pushes an automated message to the feeds of your people. Just don’t uncheck the box.

4) Do 3 and write a big post about how you’re downright thrilled that providence/the universe/dumb luck has bestowed this great honor on you, and you’d be jiggered if anyone didn’t know about it.

Those are the options. Do what you want with it. I tend to be more secretive than most while still keeping people in the loop. If you give more guidance on your circumstances, I can pick one of the options for you. Cheers

EDIT: Job prestige isn’t a huge part of this decision. Don’t push a full-blown post over getting picked up by Mickey D’s, but otherwise it’s not too bad. *I respect McD plenty, it’s just not a job you need a business network to do.*

Thanks kellycriterion (and the brofessor) for your insights. The 4th option is definitely too unnatural for me.

My considerations are whether to keep a low profile (option 2) and carry on with life, or to go with some bit of publicity (option 3) and hopefully catch some people's (recruiter's) attention, especially hiring for Summer is in 1+ month's time. Gotten my latest internship through LinkedIn messaging so thinking that it could potentially play a part - but the company's a pre-seed startup. At the same time, I wonder if there is a perception of showing-off when posting such job updates.

Thanks!
