Brandon St. Randy and I are headed to the Pony Bar at 8pm tomorrow night for a few beers before heading down to Arlene's Grocery for live rock band karaoke, which starts at midnight.
This is a ton of fun and something we've wanted to open up to the site at large for a while now. If you've never done karaoke with either of us, you don't know what you're missing!
Arlene's Grocery has a live rock band onstage that plays your backing track while you get your inner rock star on, and yes--there is a live audience watching. It's a great experience and there's truly nothing else like it. Be advised Arlene's is 21 and over only.
Hopefully some of you can come and join us at least for part of the night.

Hey I might be there at Pony bar, but I'm not sure about karaoke.
Yeah, I know it's short notice, but we only just decided on it. As shorttheworld would say, "No babies."
At Arlene's there is a $10 cover on Friday nights. If we come as a group I may be able to get them to waive the cover charges, as I did for Swagon and Febreze after the last WSO meetup. In any case, the cheap drinks kind of make up for the covers. They brew their own beer "Arlene's Ale" which is on sale for $4 per pint. They also have a Whiskey shot + PBR special for $6.

Yes they have quite a few Metallica songs. You can certainly play the guitar as well. Many of Arlene's regulars are professioanl musicians who play with bands. I have seen them playing guitar or bass while singing.
