Living Alone or Roommate?

Trying to decide between living alone or getting a roommate. I’ll be starting a new job soon, which will be a rotational one week in office/one week WFH for the near future. Having my own place would be ideal, but I’m also relocating to a new city where I don’t know anyone so a roommate be nice. It’ll also cut down on rent/utilities, but if I’m working late nights, I don’t want to be trapped in my room if my roommate is watching tv/cooking/etc. Thoughts on this?

If you can afford it, definitely try to live alone. Don't have to deal with anyone's shit, and can invite friends whenever you want. Meeting your roommate's friends is a gamble, so it would be better just to make your own normally (meet up groups, industry type events, neighborhoods sports programs, the gym, etc.).

I still think so. As long as the commute isn't too bad, and it's not that hard getting to nightlife/other interesting stuff to do then I think that would be best.

If you’re thinking about having a roommate, meet a lot of people and choose wisely - just don’t jump into the first thing you see.

Live alone. Roommates are not friends. They can become them over time but it's never a guarantee. In fact I often refuse to room with friends and tell others not to do so either. Rooming is a quick and easy way to destroy an existing friendship. What is the likelihood it fosters a new one.....

I did WFH for 2yrs in a true 4BR in NYC with a massive living room and basically had the whole pad to myself during the day. They all had to go into the office. Highly recommended.
