Location apartment summer internship GS London, budget: 4k PS

Hi,

Will be interning this summer at GS, which is located at Fleet Street. I am using RightMove to find single bedroom apartments. My budget is 4k PS and I am wondering what the best place near would be in terms of commute to Fleet Street and also in terms of activities outside the office. I have never been to London prior to the interviews.

Thank you very much.

Best,

Me

How long is the internship for? You've got a pretty good budget if it's for 2-3 months and will have options in most locations.

The Fleet Street/Chancery Lane area is very business centric. Although you'll enjoy the many pubs/bars in the area after work, better nightlife is located either a short tube journey (Liverpool Street, Soho, Shoreditch) or a slightly longer tube journey away (Clapham, Camden, Brixton).

I have friends who live near Fleet Street/Chancery Lane and enjoy it because the commute is easy and they are happy to travel a bit further to go out. I also have friends who have chosen to live closer Brixton/Clapham/Camden to be closer to the social scene and are happy to commute into work.

So your budget is £4K for 3 months, meaning £1.3K per month? If so, forget Soho (unless you want flatmates) and focus on Shoreditch and similar areas. Just south of the river is also quite affordable and close (London Bridge, Southwark, Waterloo and Borough).

If it's just accommodation for the summer, I think the other options mentioned above by the other user (Clapham, Camden and Brixton) are quite far and not worth going for. You won't have too much time to enjoy/explore London anyway so have proximity as the first priority

You're looking to get an apartment all by yourself? You'll save a lot of money if you share and that's what most people do, even several years into their professional careers. Nobody really gets an apartment by themselves unless you're approaching a 6 figure annual income, it's just too expensive to find anything decent.

Ok yes maybe you can afford £4K, but why would you want to spend that much?

Thanks for the comments all. I would rather live as comfortable as possible in order to perform my best possible, I think that is worth the investment. Thanks again for the suggestions!
