Might sound a little weird, but I’m wondering when people usually go off during Christmas, and if it’s possible to take a week during which I’ll be totally unreachable during daytime (9-5) to go on an extreme sports trip abroad.

If you’re going to be totally unreachable from 9-5 for 7 days, I suggest you do not work in IB, or get a gf.
It’s very likely you won’t need to work on your holiday at all depending on your team but I would not tell them you’re going to be MIA for 7 days 9-5.
More likely 4-5 days where I might still quickly reply but not work on my computer at certain times of the day from 9-5 due to being away and in activity.
So you wouldn’t tell your team ? I thought that unless a deal was about to break apart, they could cut you some slack in holidays as long as were serious
