Used to live around that area (2014 - 2016). My recommendations are below. All are pretty close to where you are staying.
Midtown for going out/bars. Dogwood was my personal fav. Quick Uber from where you are staying.
if you are runner i'd hit up memorial park and run a loop (3 miles). I was out of shape running 7:30 miles and passed a shit ton of people every run (huge confidence boost lol)
Rice's campus, not huge but I thought it was cool. If its open i'd check out their on campus bar called Valhalla. Also, Rice Village has some nice restaurants / bars, way more chill vibes compared to Midtown.
DO NOT GO TO GALVESTON, you're welcome
If you're into malls Galleria is right by you, kind of lame, but their is an ice rink hahaha
Pappasitos Mexican on Upper Kirby is real good
Whataburger for Fast food. The triple with cheese was my jam
Also some cool bars around the heights area. Lincoln Bar and Little Woodrows were the two I used to frequent.
Star Pizza was my go to if you are in the mood for Pizza
Torchy's is good, but honestly I thought it was overrated (also they have them outside of Houston)
The best tex-mex you will ever have is El Tiempo on either Richmond or Westheimer. I always got the fajitas with some margaritas. I mean it when I say that you will never have another plate of fajitas like them. Some people will argue that Ninfa's on navigation is just as good but I am not ready to give it that title.
Just googled it...hmmm never heard of it. Looks like is right by Kirby Ice House, which I was always a fan of (assuming you aren't outside when its hot AF out)
It's a town 45 mins to an hour from Houston on the ocean. Water is real gross and beaches themselves are nothing to write home about. I also wasn't a fan of the town.

El Tiempo over everything! Best margaritas I've ever had
What's the deal with Galveston?

Taste of Texas is nearby, check it out if you want a good steak!
Would pass on Taste of Texas, if you want a really good steak go to B&B Butchers.
