Looking at a computer screen or numbers too long.

Hi WSO,

I wanted to ask if anyone has gone through this before I would very much like some input. Regardless of what field could be IB, S&T, HF, etc what do you do when you've taken in too much information or looked at a computer screen for way too long. It's basically getting to the point where I feel like a cement truck is pouring concrete into my head and when I try to look at something mentally my body won't let me. Any advice cause I don't really like the idea of going through the rest of the day feeling like I just got grilled by an MD.

What exactly is the problem here? Physically looking at the screen and eye strain and other symptoms? Or understanding the flood of information that many professional jobs bring along?

You need to learn (over time) to cut out the noise and only take in the data you really need for the task at hand.

eye strain:  this is a tougher one, all of my colleagues and I are struggling with eye health and other issues. take many breaks, eat right, lots of exercise, lots of oxygen. filter blue light through settings or glasses if that works for you.

Exercise - hit that Max HR

I hit 196bpm HR on my bike yesterday on an hour ride. Highlight of the ride - passing one of the best athletes in the city. I'm pretty heavy right now so my power must have been there. I think my max HR is 205, but haven't hit that in a while. This dude I passed has a 2:27 marathon time - he is good. He would destroy me on the run in a triathlon.

iz u talkings froms infurmationz overlodes? you stares at  thee screen and numbers and you get slows and you can't catch thee errurs in yoor work?

you see thee infurmationz bu you cants really pays attentiunz to the details - you see the balanz shet dusnt balanze but you dunt see that you typesed  100, 550,000 instead of 100,055,000 and u sees that number over and over again but thee brian dusnt register the error.

A lot of finance is just looking for trends and explaining them, so one thing I've found helpful is to just create a quick graph in excel (just looking at a long sheet of numbers isn't conducive for me) and then write a short sentence outlining my thoughts.

You could also try printing things out to review. Or review something quickly at first, go for a walk to think about it, and then come back for a deeper dive (obviously not always possible).

Yup, know exactly what you´re talking about, it´s horrible, especially when there´s a deadline and you just. Can´t. Think. Straight. Best solution that works for me is to take 10min off, close my eyes and breathe deeply, Wim Hof style.
